Tannoy 'Super Tweeter' thing + funny looking monitors

Old news with the ads in abundance for these, but it deserves an honorable mention type of post here.

SuperTweeter can be bought separately, but I don't get how you'd use it. I guess you go into your speaker and disconnect the tweeter, then somehow place this ontop of the monitor and try to time align it with the woof by eye?? Or do you somehow install this into your monitor?

I've heard differing opinions about their appearance. I think they look cool as ****.

Somebody let us know when you hear 'em.

Thanks!

O wait... Brad Blackwood, you seem to get your ears around stuff before most people here do. You're first! heh

funny looking Tannoy monitors

maybe Tannoy will have a separate room away from the exhibit floor at AES for semi-serious listening. Although I am not in the market for monitors right now, I would really like to hear this sucker.. And I'm one of the few who actually think it looks cool.

Well I think it looks cool too. I want some. I'd also like to try the seperate supertweeter with my JBL LSR28Ps.

"The SuperTweeter should be connected across your main speakers" it has crossover points of 14, 16 & 18 kHz. see the manual :

Heres a quote from the Tannoy "wideband" pdf :
Quote:
Likewise, the addition of a SuperTweeter, time aligned to the acoustic centre of the Dual Concentric, will reduce the high frequency phase error by moving the low pass roll off point much higher, typically –6dB @ 54kHz, -18dB @ 100kHz. So even if we ignore for now the perception of sound above 20kHz, the
addition of a SuperTweeter will better preserve the harmonic relationship
between instruments. To illustrate this, Fig. 7 shows the phase error with both
a 20kHz roll off and a 54kHz roll off. There is clearly less phase error not just a
high frequencies, but as low as 5kHz also.

After reading that manual some more - I realized that hooking the supertweeter up to powered monitors will be hard to wire correctly because the signal needs to go from the amp -> supertweeter -> tweeter. Not impossible, just tricky since the amp is in the speaker box already.

Invasion of the tweeter snatchers!

Every studio will have them soon! But will we wake up a clones of Roger Nichols?

If you screw them to a short plank of wood, I wonder if they would make a good walkman headset?
