Apogee Duet for Midi in Ableton?

I recently purchased a pair of Yamaha HS8 monitors, along with the HS8S sub. However, I have yet to buy an interface. When testing the sub, I noticed it was very quiet compared to reviews I have read, which state that you should only have to turn up the volume to the 2nd notch, or halfway at most to get a loud bass sound. However, when listening to music, I have to turn it up all the way to get a decent bass sound. I was talking to someone from guitar center, and he said it was probably because I don't have an interface, so the subwoofer isn't getting a "balanced signal." He recommended the Apogee Duet 2. However, I am producing House/EDM in Ableton live, meaning I am only using MIDI and no live audio recording. Is the Apogee Duet worth it if I am only using it for the: balanced signal/Digital to Analog/Analog to Digital? Or do you think the sub is faulty?

Currently, I have a headphone jack from my computer to the XLR input in the sub, and then XLR output to the monitors. A very newbie setup, I am aware, but I am on a budget. Thank you in advance for anyone who helps!

If you're doing music production, the first thing you want to do is replace the onboard soundcard.

It's made with about 50cents worth of parts for beeps, boops and light gaming.
