Get a really good drummer with a well-tuned kit (new heads, these sound like non-coated ones) in a well-balanced room, close mic everything, blend in some room mics, get everything nicely in phase, compress and eq tastefully both on individual channels and the bus.

No trick! Just a culmination of talent, experience and work!

I'm not sure, but sounds like a steel snare to me... not wood... I may be wrong...
And a slightly 'harder' BD midrange EQ setting... not a weak and deep EQ...

Generally I think it is difficult to tell which shell material was used. But the natural "compression" and attack/tone ratio, especially in the snare (which is at least 6,5 deep) sounds like a pretty hard hitting drummer.

The kick sounds pretty midrange forward. Maybe a shallow (14 or 16" deep) but big in diameter. Tuned pretty low which results in a "slappy" attack when played hard.

cheers

I think Jordan Richardson may be on this board...and I think that's him.
