Headroom/Maximum Input before clipping - Preamps?

Hi,

I'm posting this thread because I would like to know the significance of headroom/max input before clipping and how this may or may not affect real world performance of preamps.

My ISA One has a max input spec of +6dBu. This would appear to be pretty low or is it?

My Liquid Channel's max input spec is +16dBu and pres like the DAV BG1 are +29dBu. Some preamps have an even higher max input before clipping spec.

Should I be concerned that my Focusrite pres specs are possibly quite low??

What scenarios would I need higher specs if at all?

Thanks

I've just been reading this article on Ranes website :-

Selecting Mic Preamps

According to this it would appear that my Neumann TLM102 has an output of 14dBu and my ISA One has a maximum input of 6dBu?

Does this mean that my TLM102 has too high an output for the ISA One?

According to the table on the Rane website my AT 4040 has an even higher output of 20dBu which is higher than my Liquid Channels max input of 16dBu!?

What do these figures mean and how does this affect real world performance?
