QuikLok BS300 = a bit poor?

I got a second hand pair of these fairly cheap and just set them up. I used the carpet spikes.

For some reason one seems 2cm lower than the other and I can't understand why. There's no random setting, the holes are the same on both (I'd imagine at least anyway, how could you screw that up?)

Also, the bolt that goes in the hole to support the movable pole seems like it's the wrong bolt. It's threaded for some reason but there's nothing for it to screw into. Also, it seems as though the weight of the speaker on the plate moves it slightly and it could come out easily.

Anyone else these problems and fixed them or made the feel a bit safer? I have a cat and a clumsy girlfriend
