Best sounding EQ

In your opinion, what´s best sounding and flexible EQ for the 500 format?

Different EQ's for different tracks (voice, Gtr, Bass)! I like the Harrison EQ.

I have API 550a's & 560s, Avedis E27s and Harrison EQ32s. I love em all for different reasons but the Harrison is the most flexible (and the filters are sublime).

Had the Harrison but I prefer the API 550a for mojo and sculpting. It's a classic for a reason.

550b is my go-to for flexibility. 550a can sound a bit nicer, but may not have the frequency points I'm after.

For sonics, I LOVE the electrodyne 511, though they're hardly flexible. Cartec makes a great little EQ too.

Got a 10 slot chassis full of Harrison 32eqs and Purple ODDs. Love them to death.

Not sure if there is a best.

But Harrison/Great River or Tonelux are both flexible and sound great.

Purple LilPeqr is great for basic shaping too.

Had and sold E-27's in the past, prefer my 550b's...But if I had to choose only one 500 series EQ to work with, I'd have to go with the Harrison EQ32...in "non-feedback mode". It's smooth and classy sounding.

I had the Harrison and sold them, nothing wrong with them just.. too plain
I wanna check out the new eq from Greg/UBK, I sense it's gotta be pretty awesome, in the meantime, care to compare the ODD with the Harrison?
Those (the ODD) where something I was looking at too

The odd is fine as a broad brush tracking kind of an EQ. Not that flexible though.

If you get the Electra, let us know what you think. I'm leaning towards those myself because they seem to focus in on controlling the lows and low mids... which I think is the most important part of the spectrum and the most difficult to control.

Don't know how soon I will be able to test them as I have other gear
to get first but def i'm gonna try to at least demo them soon
Greg's gear sounds great and the electra sees pretty interesting design
and freq choices so, yeah they gotta be nice

Uh, no. Anything that has low mid content... which is a lot of stuff. And possibly for the 2 buss. But that's why I am asking. Because I don't have any experience with it but based on the way it's designed/set up, it sounds like it does something not many other eqs can do. Some guys solve the problem with broad strokes. I think that area is crucial to having a good mix with lots of energy so I'd like to be a little more precise with it.

Any experience with them?

ever checked out an API 554?

it is essentially like a 550A, but with sweepable bands.

to me, it has the sweetness of a 550A with much more flexibility.

very musical.

API 550a 550b always did the job well, on the rack end love to have GML but these Ameks 9008 are lush.

for surgery Harrison

for color API 554 or the new neve lb eq

unfortunately no *single* 500 series eq can really do the job of both extensive color and cleanup simultaneously

you need at least 2 eqs in an LB

500 foot print is just too small to have a versatile eq

surprised there are no 2 space EQs ? maybe their are?

outboards EQ there are loads of options
