Roland Space Echo question

Ok, so I have a Roland Space Echo, and I love the way it sounds. The only problem is the initial input signal is really loud compared to the echoes. Do I need a new tape? Or is there a "mix" control that I'm missing?

my sre 555 had a switch that allowed you to switch out the direct signal, check to see if yours has one and if it does switch it out.

otherwise not sure.

I had a space echo and actually got rid of it and replaced it with a plug. (Ok, go off on me) the thing always needed fixin' and it pissed me off, sounded great but made me want to throw temper tantrums. Anyhow, I solved the problem by getting the uad plug and I also run it through an analog piece or two and I'm happier. It can also sync to tempos. Something to consider....

rufuss, the space echos are known to have quiet echoes when used in direect mode which is why most people hook it up via an aux send, so they can have control over how much wet vs. how much dry they are getting. use the "from p.a." input and the output set to "h" and the echo volume all the way up. hth, travis.

Try adjusting the leaf spring with felt on the end that holds the tape against the bearing. If this is not holding the tape tightly the tape doesn't make good contact with the tape heads.

Sheesh, I'd join you for a bong in a new york second if I could. Time to legalize it.

hey Rufuss, do you mean that they're barely there even with the Echo Volume on max?

what are you putting into it?

I guess you've tried all H M L settings on the output?

I had a problem with an SRE-555 where the repeats were there, but almost inaudible compared to the input signal. I ended cleaning all the heads with isopropyl alcohol and that fixed it up (or the tape was misaligned and when I put it back I remedied the problem)
