Go with the BM15A's. I have tried and used most monitors in that price range and we settled on the Dyna's a year ago and love them. Nice low end and realistic highs. Better low mids than the Genelec's we were replacing.

We do all styles of music and they translate it well to other speakers.

should be able to find a slightly used pair of Genelec 8040a's within that budget.

Second vote for the Tannoy Precision 8Ds. They are phenomenal monitors and you can get a pair at B&H for $1450 USD. (That's $350 less than Sweetwater, although they may match the price).

if you don't have good stands, then budget some of that $1800. maybe a set of Sound Anchors...

I've looked for threads on the 8D but didn't find many very good discussions. can anyone point me to a discussion thread on the 8Ds?

Yo dawg... JBL represent in the house. Yo, Respect dat.... Fashizzle my nizzle on the dopeness of the JAY BEE ELL's

Seriously. At least give them a listen along with everything else you can get your hands on. Unless you listen to many, you will sell yourself short. No two ways about it.

Much Respect,
