Hello to all, I just purchased the Sontronics Sigma ribbon mic and I really like the sound of it. This mike is amazing at recording percussion and background vocals at the same time. I had a session yesterday with my acoustic trio and was hoping to get a good representation of what we sound like live. The trio consists of two acoustic guitars and various types of ethnic drums and percussion. We sing intricate three part blue grass style harmonies to complete the picture. I was able to "live record" with three microphones to get an amazing blend of the group in the room. We did play around with mic positioning to get the proper levels for the recording. I can honestly say that the frequency range of a box type drum that I use (low to high) has been a huge challenge for most Engineers to record correctly. However, the Sigma is able to pickup the bass and higher frequencies while allowing the background harmonies to come through really clear in a nice balanced mix with little or no eq and processing. The build of the mic is really solid and looks good. I think it's a nice addition to my mic closet and I like the unique smooth sound of it. Also, I did a quick lead vocal test and from what I hear so far, I liked this on my voice too. I read somewhere on a post that other people have had nice results with this on sax and guitar cabinets. One other nice thing is the limited lifetime warranty on the ribbon. Anyway, since I've seen a few posts asking about this mic I thought I would share this with others.
