musician stuff:
dynacord has some nice stuff, their tube tape-delay is quite popular here in gothenburg and i really like some of their amps (bass king for instance).
fbt have made some cool guitar amps but check the tubes since there are some models with extremely rare output tubes = no amp once the tubes are gone. hagström has also made lots of cool gear.
roxy drums from hamburg. i´ve got a wooden snare that always sound great recorded.

recording:
disa preamps from denmark are supposed to be really good.
then there´s those old norwegian preamps that i do´nt remember the name of.
the swedish chrisman compressors are supposed to be nice.

you might have heard of neumann and telefunken and siemens and...

good luck

Hi,

I spend a lot of Sundays at flea markets in and around Bonn and still haven't found that 25-euro U47 whose owner is completely oblivious to its real value....

But seriously, here in Germany eBay has pretty much destroyed the potential for freak finds. The upside is that prices for old gear are a bit more consistent now because of it. A few weeks ago at a flea market someone offered me an ancient Hohner Organa for € 160. Luckily I didn't buy it, as some eBay research revealed that the going price is more like € 50 - there's hundreds of them on eBay!

However, if you're after old-timey house decoration or hobbyist stuff, i.e. vintage furniture, old advertsing plaques, pre-war printed matter, this sort of stuff, you'll love some of the flea markets over here.

Cheers,

Recky

Recky's right. German flee markets aren't what they used to be. The real bargains are long gone, thanks to eBay...

There are still stellar deals to be made though - but that'll be through good connections exclusively: Cinemas, schools, broadcasters, concert venues etc.
The usual suspects.

Two years ago, I bought 2 U47 fet for € 1000.

Cheers.

There was this bit of French kit that I think was called Disa. Maybe it's Danish? I don't know, but they made a tube pre that looks just like a Telefunken V76. I saw some on ebay once and it looked like it was very cool.

deal is pending..

but 2 Neumann w491's
and 2 ANT w696b's

these will mostly be strapped across the busses for mixdown.
and inserted in to the channels for tracking
(tho' i tend to not eq that much during tracking)

at least that's what i'm thinking right now...
who know's what will happen during the sessions..

let me know more about these u473's will you..?

they're really nice to put a vocal, or acoustic instrument forward in the mix.
the tone is sophisticated, not without energy but not SSL buss slam stuff
they'll start to pump when overdone, but there is a filter on the sidechain.
you can find the schematics and manual in the Kubarth files

oh works on some vocals too.
my girlfriend is spanish, she's got a beautiful voice, soft and with lots of emotion.
and these Neumanns are very usefull in lifting the soft parts, without breaking the spell.
for powerfull voices, I use my Kultube.
both in the mix, never while tracking.

Yup.
I'd say the U473a is the smoothest sounding and most unobstrusive VCA compressor I've come across.

My 2 cents
