Is there any advantage to unbalanced connections?

i think that was the blue mastering range actually. dont know if it was balanced or unbalanced but i remember reading something about them not using input transformers to maintain sonic purity.
since focusrite changed their website i dont know where to find on it. they seemed to of scraped the few good articals on the site aswell.
mabey someone else knows more about the old focusrite stuff
