DA16-X vs BIGBEN CLOCK Digital Converters

DA16-X vs BIGBEN CLOCK

Both units are supposed to share the same C777 algorhythm.

But...

I've found that, to my ears, the DA-16-X sounds BETTER (and not WORSE or EQUAL as I expected) when clocked by the BigBen!

Am I getting crazy or are there documented differences in the C777 implementation?

So I called Max at Apogee to confirm what I already thought. The c777 clock found in the Big Ben and DA-16x are not similar, they are exactly the same. So you should not be hearing any differences. I am not sure why you are; you may want to double check how you are doing this shootout to make sure the differences aren't caused by something else.

same clock. Big Ben gives the user more options, that is the only difference.

Could be an inferior cable, or you could be picking up some interference on the cable between the BB and 16X.

I've checked again, and the difference is subtle, but noticeable.

Also a fellow musician confirmed it this evening, in a blind test.

Maybe, it's got something to do with MY da16-x (I've bought it used).

Thanks again for your feedback, mates!

could it be (as knowledgable peeps have said on this forum) that assuming the clock is good, an internal clock is always better than external?

You've misunderstood... I said that EXTERNAL clock is better than INTERNAL

Interesting. When I sut up our rigs with Max, I had this discussion and in keeping with everyone knowlege, they are exactly the same. I will try to re-amp something and record to one unit clocked internal and one via BB and see what comes out. I'm sure I will hear no difference, but as with everything else, I'll have to listen to give my 0000 0010 cents
