CMV-563 issue?

CMV-563 issue?

When I speak really close to the mic (1-2 inches) with either the M7 or M55K capsule fitted, the mic cuts out for a few seconds and then the sound comes back. No issues when I'm about 5-10 inches away, and the effect is less when I use a pop shield.
Yesterday I recorded electric guitars with the M7 capsule in loud volumes and had no issue. I only noticed it today when I was doing some tests.

I'm new to the world of vintage tube mics so I don't know if I am just overloading the mic and this is a normal thing, or if the tube or other components are dying.

Thanks.

Hi,

I had the same issue when checking my 2 bodies in the control room with my voice and my 2 m55k and the m7. But as they are serviced and work very well without any issue in the rec room, I thought that was only happening when the mic "wakes up"... but I'll be happy to have some confirmations on this.

My M7 capsule did the same thing right before it died. Had it redone and no problems since.

hi mate, my advice; get off the mic, you should never sing that close into a vintage mic without a pop stop let alone at a few inches!

this problem is common but it doesn't mean the end of the capsule, it means back off a bit!!!

cheers
