Console Noise and Mixing: Unbalanced In's or Balanced Pre's?

Hi there, I have a Tascam 2600 (mk1) that i am setting up for outboard mixing alongside 2 echo audiofire 12's and pt9. Unfortunately the board has only unbalanced line in's which i fear will add noise while mixing. However, i had the thought of using balanced TRS to XLR cables running from my converter's outs into the individual track preamps on the console, which are balanced. Will this help the potential noise problem or make it worse? Is it bad to have double the preamp's "color" on the track? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Also, my cabling will only be 6ft in length, if that changes any of the potential for noise.

It would be bad to feed your line level outputs into the Tascam's mic inputs.
Just use the unbalanced line inputs, they're fine for cable runs under 20 feet.

Splendid! Exactly what i was looking for. If you don't mind me asking, what is the negative result of running the line level outputs into the mic inputs? Just curious and thanks again for the advice.

Impedance mis-match can tilt the frequency response but mainly the +4 line output hitting a pre looking for a -50 dBu mic output is a bad level match.
