I'm in the middle of rewiring my room and need to find a good source for dsub connectors and pins, I'm going to try and roll my own with the help of a friend. Anybody know of a good crimper that's reasonably priced?
Digi-Key.com 1-800-dig-ikey. They ship today.
Mouser also good.
No such thing as a cheap AND good D-sub crimping tool. Expect to pay $100 +/-$30 for new.
I was stunned to win a box of DB15 and DB25 connectors and an AMP tool for $35 on e-bay. That's 90% off new retail. Look hard and long, and there are deals.

Edit: Crimp solid-core wire, solder stranded. My WW connections are with solid wire, so punch/crimp is good. Don't crimp dsub with solder cup, and the other way.
I always solder D-Subs. Any reason you need to crimp them?
The cables I have now are crimped and we've been able to move the pins around and haven't had a problem but your probably right that soldering is better.
