Is Hearing More Sensitive When You're Tired...?

Last night I tried to work on a mix that I had remembered sounded great when I had last touched it. It was late and I was tired when I opened the project, and the vocal sounded awful, full of ugly all resonances all over the place, and I was literally falling asleep in my chair as I tried to EQ it. Eventually I gave up and went to sleep.

I opened it again first thing in the morning and it didn't sound much better, but then later tonight I tried again and it sounded fine, even against reference tracks.

Is hearing more sensitive when you're tired or something?

I generally find that my hearing gets unreliable when I'm tired or have had too much caffeine, or after a beer. Sometimes, I get over-sensitive to certain frequencies, other times, not sensitive enough. Staying objective when working long hours is one of the biggest challenges when mixing for me.
