Altec Lansing 1599A Mic Pre/Mixer. Anyone using these?

I'm looking at upping my preamp count as I only have four at the moment.
I've found quite of few of these units for sale on Ebay and may get a couple as they're relatively cheap. The 1599 is a six input preamp/mixer and for $100 plus shipping, it's definitely far cheaper than buying anything new. I believe it's only got a stereo output but I'm sure I can modify it to have separate outs for each channel.

Has anyone had any good/bad experiences with these?

No, it's just another thing I was looking at. I think if you get one in working condition it should be good. The only problem I remember is that I think it only has two outputs.

No phantom power either. I'm fairly certain I've seen the direct out mod floating around somewhere or other.
