Vocal/Gtr Tracking Comp- mojo vs function

I have an API 512, Great River ME500NV and FMR RNP for mic pres

I have an FMR RNC and RNLA and a meek 3Q, which has a fixed ratio opto compressor.

I have a mackie 1640i and I am thinking about getting a really good compressor for tracking vocals and acoustic guitar.
Where the RNC is fantastic, it is really pretty transparent in terms of the sound of the compressor itself. RNLA has a softer presence.

Here's a question- in terms of being inspired (all other things equal- meaning performance, etc..) how much stock do you place in having a compressor that brings it's own sound to the mix?

Allot, because you can always turn it off and use a plugin for transparency. It will be your unique sound that separates you from everyone else. That's why you would by a hardware compressor today.

I am a fan of what I have heard.
Are you talking about the stand alone compressor, the channel strip or the 517? or ALL? haha
