Low Signal from AKG mic used with Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 DSP interface

Hey guys,

First post here.

Done a bit of searching around and couldn't find a solution. I've had an ongoing unresolved issue with a condenser mic I purchased about a year ago. The mic in question being an 'AKG Perception 420'.

I have the mic plugged into a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 DSP interface, which feeds from my Macbook Pro, running Logic Pro 9 as my DAW of choice.

I'm having trouble getting any type of decent sound or signal from the mic. I'm simply using it for vocals. To get even the smallest sound, I have to talk loudly or even yell with my mouth almost touching the mic. I thought that maybe I needed to buy a preamp, but after consulting other users, blogs and forums, I have come to the conclusion that the preamps in Saffire Pro 24 DSP are more than sufficient.

I've tried the AKG mic on omni, cardiod & figure of eight modes, also tried with the 20dB pad on and off.

I've tried tackling this problem many times over the past year, and I'm still coming up empty. I'm sure this is a very simple issue, that I'm overlooking.

My hunch is that it may be a setting in the Pro 24 DSP or even Logic Pro 9.

If anyone has some ideas, or if you require more info to help with this problem, please feel free to shoot me a few questions, or any solutions you may have.

Thanks in advance.

You did click the <48> phantom power button on your Focusrite unit right?

nocoJack, yes that is correct. Phantom power is switched on, that is not the problem. Thanks.
