Paul Weller "Wake Up The Nation"

i'm not the biggest paul weller fan, but i stumbled across his last album "wake up the nation" and i've been a fan of the production since. i think it's fantastic! so retro, so dense, so real, so creative. sounds a lot like the 60s psycho-pop pastiches, beatles, small faces ...
it was recorded in the black barn studio in surrey london (Black Barn Recording Studio Surrey London UK) with - i guess - some marvellous gear beeing used.
i am dreaming all my live of realizing such a recording myself - but obviously i ain't got the gear! so, what would you suggest putting in the pot for coming at least close?

a few examples: Paul Weller - Wake Up The Nation (Video) HQ - YouTube
Paul Weller Find The Torch,Burn The Plans 2010 - YouTube
Paul Weller Moonshine.wmv - YouTube

all i have for achieving this sound is some mics: rode nt2a, rode nt5, t.bone sc180, t.bone r500 ribbon, sm57/58
preamps: golden age pre73, LA-610, TLA 5051
liquid mix 32

on cd i can hear lots of hiss, so i guess tape played a key role.
