Soundworkshop 30 how to mix???

I just grabbed a 28 channel SW series 30 it s 8 buss
but how do you mix on this ???
are the bus groups just raw outputs do they return to the stereo mixdown,
some info from a SW user would be great,
I have a ways to go to get it on just looking at it and realized there was bus groups but no bus channels

I have a couple SW's.

I think you should sign up for the Yahoo SW group, if you haven't already.

People there will tell you a myriad ways of using the routing on this console.

Are you trying to insert processing on the busses, and monitor them on mixdown?

Nice funky old console, congrats!

Hey man I'll help out. Yup those are just your standard buss out. The can be used as mtr sends or as a way to group channels. My series 30 has a built in bay so say I route all my drums to bus 6 and 7 I then bring that buss on the patchbay into a set of line in. I.e buss 6-7 out into channels 9-10 line in.

It's not to bad. Give me at call at four 0 two 9seven,two 6three87 if you have any other question ill be happy to answer!

Sorry I wasn't more helpful, was trying to understand exactly what you were trying to accomplish I guess. Here's my deal:

I already had a large format brit console, but wanted to get some old SW's in here. I had no room for a 1600, 40, or 30.

Ended up up with two series 20's (basically little stripped down 30's) as "sidecars" on either side of it. The circuit is identical, but the 30 has more sends. I fitted series 30 eq's in mine.

Anyway, yes the poster above is correct.

On mine, you can monitor the buss, but you can't insert things and build a sub mix, then monitor these. These were meant to feed subs to a recorder, or a cue send or whatever.

Bringing them back in the way he is talking, is a good way to do it. Does yours have a jack on the rear labeled "spare"? Or connection for this?

Mine had this, and they were connected to nothing. Had it modded to feed the mix buss, so I had an extra return for things like this, or extra efx returns etc. The you can use the busses for added efx sends etc too.

There are a lot of ways to do this, and if you have a decent little submixer/ sidecar, the possibilities expand even more exponentially.

I am thinking you will like your new board. One thing though, recap it before putting it in service. If it hasn't been already, it will NOT sound as it should at all. Night and Day difference.

Good luck man!

Anyhow, I get the console but one big question.

Can I just go TT Bantam to xlr in and out of the patch bay???
and skip the underside of the console?

You probably can but it would end up being a real PITA. Also would be pretty costly if you had any amount of equipment at all.
I'd only see doing this if it is a temporary thing (like for a weekend) only a few pieces of gear needed to be connected and I already had the TT/XLR cables on hand.

Learning curve is over the console is working and is mixed on,
strange things here and there but slowly getting a small inventory of fixes,
I find the molex connectors quite usable and I keep trying new things,
New chips are on the way as well as slowly going to recap.
thanks for all the help.
Bypassing the stereo section 8 buss out and into my own summing stereo mix down with some gain there,
Lovely mixer
