Great River 500 series

Just got a pair of Great River 500s. I tried it out yesterday with a SM7. Wow. I played my '54 Martin D-18 into the SM7 and listened back.....a little compression, roll of a little on each end and....it sounds great! Tried a vocal...once again, a little eq and compression...sounds great. I feel like I can finally make a decent recording in my project studio.

My plan is to record my guitar (and other acoustics) with the SM7 and a modded Oktava MC 012. I'm thinking that I will position the Oktava at the neck/body join and the SM7 either at the saddle or over the shoulder.

Any thoughts?

That is a pretty typical arrangement and sounds like a good starting point. You should try moving them around to see why this works. I really loved moving the SDC back a bit and turning up the gain and attenuation to capture more room sound when I was using the Great Rivers.

I am going to do some recording this Friday. I will try to post some clips.
