You have no Audio Technica mics in this list ? I use AT4041's and sometimes AT4050's for a little more flat tone .

"Flat" like pancake flat, "flat" like 'I've never used the above mics' or "flat" like dull, lifeless and boring?

No Shure KSM32?

My new pair of Little Blondies have also been great on OH's, BTW.

KSM32s?!?!?! I didn't realize I posted this poll in the low-end forum... Have you tried SM57s? You might like them better.

Also, congrats on your purchase of the Little Blondies. Hopefully you didn't forgo any operations/medical procedures.

P.S. - I enjoy sarcasm profusely.

I seem to recall we had a smiley here to give someone the finger. Can't seem to find it though...

Ask Ronan Chris Murphy, who first turned me onto them, about the KSM32 on overheads.

And about the Blondies: Since when is cost the only factor related to how well any piece of audio gear works?

Would be good to see C414's, Beyer M160's and Sony C-37A's on that list too.

I voted other because I use a couple on the list but also others. I have no favourite as my Schopes work great sometimes while other times the Coles 4038 are just the ticket.

I've been using KSM 32's lately. Pretty awesome. But no, i have never had the pleasure of using a U67 on OH's

but if fruity, indi producers are using 4038 maybe i'll give them a try

No 4050s? They are pretty popular for overheads and sound awesome!

57s as OHs - now THAT's funny! Or RE-20s, perhaps? heh

Best OHs, IME: Original U87, original KM84, original (silver) 414-EB (see below), and last but not least, original AT4033.

Of course, if you know what you're doing, you can use a million different mics.

And LDC vs. SDC depends on program material, room, sonic destination, blah, blah, blah.

I didn't vote, because I like too many mics in your list

BTW - I had an immaculate pair of these stolen from my NYC studio about 10 years ago. Great utility mics.
...and best stereo choir sound I've ever recorded.

How did AKG 414's miss that list? Those are probably the most used overhead mics in history.

I love my AKG 460B's, first choice.

I worked with a guy named Paul Taylor once - Roberta Flack's FOH guy, tracking Bernard Wright's funk band in my studio.

Poogie Bell was playing drums, Bernard Wright MD/keys, Phil Hamilton on bass (Luther Vandross) and Dean Brown on guitars.

He used one AKG 451 for the whole kit @18" anterior of the kit - 2 inches above the kick - in a tight mostly dead drum room.

One of the best drums sounds I've ever heard (nothing to do with Pooge ).

So who needs OHs, anyway! heh

Don't sleep on the 451's! Another OH candidate.

So you would go with an Oktava over a pair of C12s or even KM84s???!?! That's nuts.

So, currently 24 out of 38 of you prefer mics that aren't on this list? Granted I made the mistake of leaving off different 414 incarnations and 251s, but come on! If I saw an intern throw up my KSMs over the u67s, I'd probably have them set on fire.

If you'd put U48 in the poll instead of U47 you might see votes for those.

U48s in blumlein are reasonably common but U47s don't have fig-8 as an option

I've never tried U48s as overs, but I could see how that would be pretty tasty. Never cared for the 47 in that application, but then again I've always had a hard time finding a good pair around to use.
