There is nothing wrong with the 4898-2, in fact it is one of the best sounding opamps ever made to my ears, the opamps implementation is stated very clearly in the AD spec sheet, there is a heatsink pad on the bottom of the chip, it must be used for cooling, and carries negative voltage(if i remember correctly?) if not implemented properly(like ross did), they burn up. 2+2=4

that said, IMO a little tlc added to the ross boxes, and you have yourself some great conversion for the $/hassle

As it turned out the issue with my box had nothing to do with the chips, but with faulty voltage regulators. I got it back a few weeks ago and it sounds really nice.

So, Ross is still building/repairing stuff? That would certainly be a good thing.

Yep, he is.

I've decided to go a diff route with my setup. So I'm selling my two AES8 DACs if anyone is interested. They work great and sound really, really good. *edit* No I'm not.

I'm still keeping my stereo DAC and my ADC, which both sound really nice.

Our Gearslutz model Dual Bare Beast sounds stellar - integrates seamlessly into our workflow here. I'm possibly interested in some thermal options to keep the AD opamps running long-term......

hi

same here.. been waiting for 2 years now on
my AES 8x8 ADC/DAC

and he stopped answering my emails..
except when i mailed him with different
email adress as a 'new' buyer he answered me..

saying: yes yes, three months delivery, no problem

maybe he has good intentions but i dont believe
a bussines like his should still operate ,taking money
but not delivering the products..
or like his websites mentioned putting customers that
complain too often at the end of the list..

now ive talked to my lawyer and we are going too start
a process against his company!!!

nobody else tried too sue him?well i definitly will!

Very sad, all this. I still use my DA every day. Works great, sounds great.

What a shame.

Indeed! This is truly pathetic, as his DACs are genuinely top-notch!

Id say they 'were' (used to be) Top Notch... I used to have one... Nowadays, there are better DACs for the price like the TASCAM UH7000 and the Audient.... Same chips, better support, and without that homemade look... The TASCAM especially is impressive.

Anyone think the Tascam or Audient would be a notable step up from my Tc Electronic Twin Impact? I was looking to buy one of either of those, but someone offered to swap a mic I had for the TC, which was a good deal, so I did. I like the TC a lot, just wondering if the Tascam/Audient would be a worthwhile step up as I only record a few live tracks anyway?

update!

i opened up a claim trough paypal ,
and contacted my visa card company
as they should be the first to try and get my money back!

if this is not succesfull i will undergo next step..

my lawyer said it is nearly impossible too sue the company
as it would put paypal or visa company in court and not
the company of rossmartin itself..

what a load of crap!

maybe ill just buy a plainticket and go find ross myself !!
omg

Yes, nock on his door and say I've come for my DAC. I'd love to see that footage.

I was logged in to paypal and was literally one click away from paying for one of his converters because of all the good reviews. I decided to do one last search on gearslutz and sort by "most recent" and this is the most recent and most active thread. I have to admit I am fairly disappointed, but not as disappointed as I'd be in 2 years. Thanks for the heads up slutz!

Edit: Have any of these issues been worked out for anyone?

Talk to them and ask if they have anything ready, in stock... that's what I did and I got mine very quickly.
