Eliptical Filter

Hy guys,
I have one quickie for you
Why are the eliptical filters found on some mastering consoles called eliptical?
Thanks

For mathematical reasons to do with rational functions. I'm not enough of a DSP anorak to explain it to you, but you can read loads of things online if you really want to know. You need to spell it correctly though, it's "elliptic" not "eliptical".
