Duet 2 I/O

Considering buying the Apogee Duet 2 as a portable interface but I want to run a quick question by someone with more experience with the Duet series:
If I synced this device with ProTools (or any DAW for that matter) can I keep the 2 input channels separate in the DAW? For example if I had an LDC and a pencil condenser on an acoustic, can I balance and process each mic on its own individual track?
I'm nearly sure the answer is yes, however a friend of mine bought a Behringer Xynex mixer to find out that his 8 inputs are combined into 2 channels in his DAW. I feel like that is the purpose of a "Mixer" but you tell me.

2 Mics
1 Mic 1 Guitar
2 Guitars

Edit: And yes (my bad) you can have them on seperate tracks.
