Preamps working with my price range

Ok guys, so I am making the jump from a m-audio profire 2626 to a rme fireface 800 in the next 2 weeks. Its was backordered but it should be coming any day. Here is my dilemma.....

profire 2626 = 8 convertors/8 pre's
fireface 800 = 10 convertors/4 pre's. Chanel 9&10 use the fireface pre's(no outboard options)

So I basically need 4 preamps to match what i used to do, but I would like 6.

A friend who i did some free work for said he would pick me up a used la-610 so its easier for me to track his bass and vocals as a favor for my work.

I built one SCA J99 preamp but that stopped working. I just need some time to get it in order.

I have ribbon mics so i need extra gain so i am considering the AEA TRP to add 2 channels.

I am also considering the FMR RNP to add two more channels.

I would love to build some more Seventh Circle Audio, but unfortunately I have no time during school

So....
AEA TRP
FMR RNP
LA-610 (not paying for)

What would you guys do with $1500ish to fill minimum 4 channels?

To be honest, if you already have the SCA chassis, why not consider buying the preamps assembled? There is a guy on eBay who does them for a reasonable price. I love the SCA pres and for that $$ you could get the N72s and or A12s.

The new bla api type preamp would get you 4 channels for around $1200.

These should be fine with ribbons, unless you are trying to do foley with them.

This is what I would do with the given budget. $200 left over for a used RNP maybe.

Good luck,
j

EDIT, these probably won't be as nice and clean as the j99, but still better than most anything else at that price range for certain.

RME OctaMic II - 8-Channel Microphone Preamp with AD Conversion

Looks interesting ...

I'd probably try to stretch to an API 3124 though ...

Go for the SCA's. They are great and the J99's are the trickiest to build (but well worth it for acoustic instruments). The N72's sound great and so do the A12's (put red dots in them, not the SCA op amps). That would be your best bang for buck since you already have the rack.

Other then that Classic API VP26 or VP 312's! Best bang for buck pres and even if money wasn't an issue these are top of the line.

Forgot to add that SCA will be offering a reduced price, fully assembled version of the A12 around the end of Sept. for around $279

The J99's will follow.

I read this in a post by SCA. Might be worth the wait.

This was in a post answered directly by SCA. Heres the link, about half way down.

Can't decide: BLA B12a or SCA A12
