Since the OP made the same mistake twice, shouldn't that be apostrophes?

Mostly right.

1. Were set up to record at Montreux Casino using the Stones mobile rig.
2. Frank Zappa burnt the casino down.
3. They set up at a local theatre. Recorded only backing tracks to what was to become SOTW. Neighbours complained.
4. Set up in another hotel and finished the album.

I'd complain if someone was recording Smoke on the Water near me too.

Keep em coming, here's one, though doubtingly saw the light of radio play.

Sabbath - War Pigs

hmmm ... not sure it qualifies as a 'long intro' ...

Mostly right too..;-)
Frank Zappa didn't burn it down...it was "...some stupid with a flare gun..."...
Frank Zappa happened to play there that evening and Deep Purple attended the concert.

Child in Time - Deep Purple
Long intro, really long solo....it was hit on the dance floor...at least here in Germany....

Surprised no one has mentioned Pink Floyd's "Time."

They were in no hurry to get to the chorus on that one! Been my favorite song ever since I heard it 20 years ago and no song has been able to take over that position since then - dare I say it's timeless!

Yes, this is true. It was my failed attempt to throw some humour in, as in "burning the place down" or "burning down the house" from such a hot performance. I meant that it happened during Zappa's show.

Richard Pryor burning down the house was much more literal.

A Day in the Life by The Beatles has the best ending ever... and it's fairly long too.

"Foreplay/Long Time" by Boston may not count, because it is one of those "instrumentals that leads right into a separate song with words" deals. I still think it should be considered an intro, though. If the instrumental is really a separate song, why is it never played only on its own? If it cannot stand on its own, then I say it's an intro.
Actually, I love the mention of The Temptations "Papa Was a Rolling Stone" but yo forgot that the intro to The Temptations' song "Masterpiece" was even longer in LP version, almost 4 minutes long! Just about all of Isaac Hayes' records had at least 2-3 minutes of instrumental and/or, talking before any singing comes in. Same with Barry White- and a lot of the Acid Rock and Psychedelic Rock records from the late 60s/early/mid 70s. For that matter, a lot of club versions/LP cuts of Disco, Trance and House records. Of course, most of what's listed in my post was trimmed down into 3-4 minute Radio edits.

Violator by Depeche Mode has a few songs with long intro/outros; Enjoy the silence has just over a minute of song after the lyrics are done and Policy of Truth has that weird twinkly intro that's almost it's own song, but really more of a crot.

On the other end of the enjoyability spectrum is all of Second Coming by The Stone Roses - every song is bookended with minutes of guitar ******y. Listened to it twice and sold the disc.

See PTV link in my sig for a bunch of tracks with noise solos/outros.

Thanks for bringing up Issac Hayes. While everyone thinks of the Theme from Shaft, IMHO his album masterpiece was Hot Buttered Soul and that had talking up instrumental intros to die for.

That's about the only thing I miss about being a really bad top 40 DJ back in the day!

Dead Milkmen - Bitchin' Camaro (not an instrumental intro, but an intro none the less, and if it didn't hit the top 40, it was close)
Traffic - Low Spark of High Heeled Boys (this was a hit, wasn't it?)

I always thought "Carry on Wayward Son" by Kansas was a long intro...

Now that I actually looked though, it's only about a minute before the first verse kicks in. Still, it's pretty freaking awesome to put a guitar solo in before the first verse...

You beat me to it super famous intro and violin solo bridge. Oh and not to nitpick but its BABA O'Riley. Buba is a redkneck. Lol

The final verse ends at 1:30, and the final 2+ minutes travels like a car on a circular route (but the cool, agile, minimalist groove of drummer Cedric Sharpley drives the song and it's stark instrumental outro perfectly).
