I can agree that sometimes they have to do it.. but there are few companies that had the sound as a final goal at any costs.. (like studer did in the past).
Well, i suppose it is cutting corners strictly speaking. But I was implying that cutting cost corners doesn't necessarily imply cutting audio quality corners. Designers have to maintain trade-offs all the time, otherwise everything would be way too expensive.

One of my mentors, Brad Plunkett, used to say: "Every part will affect the way it sounds, it just is about whether you can hear it or not." As a designer, you've got to draw the line somewhere. Hopefully that line is in measurable parameters or at least a set of golden ears.
