GearSlutz needs new interface design

Is it only me, or does GearSlutz forum really look like its 1996 outside?

What do you think of a new interface in the likes of modern webdesign trends ,ie soundcloud, thumbler, etc. I am not a designer, but maybe there are some, that could offer their vision of Gearslutz 2012 so people can vote and choose?

GS is all about the text. As long as I can read what people wrote, I am not much concerned with the style of the links at the top and the 1/4" of blue down the sides.

I would probably not object to a new design, but I could also live with this one for 10 more years.

Not an issue for me.

Heh, I assume you're one of those people who think that converters that were made more than 18 months ago must be obsolete by definition?

It's all about function for me. GearSlutz is highly functional, and the advancement of a forum is more about moderation policy and execution than anything else. I would like a better mobile site for my Blackberry, but otherwise, I don't think interface is a big issue.

Many vbulletin forums have more than one skin. We wouldn't have to sacrifice the current design for a new one; users could just toggle between them at will.

I'd appreciate a darker skin. This current blue-white scheme's brightness is at times headache-inducing.

It's about on par with thegearpage, tapeop and others of the ilk.

One thing that'd be nicer is a solid BLACK background rather than blue. And maybe a dark on dark scheme where the text would be light/white - Much easier on the eyes and a little cleaner/stylish looking...would still be nice and simple.

Well the classic gearslutz design does look purdy much OS9,
so with all this amazing computer skills & talent contributing here,
it would be great to see some fresh ideas.

I remember what this sort of thing was like in 1996. It didn't look this nice.

I agree that the look of GS is sort of dated. I disagree that an update is necessary. The "I care more about what I'm talking about than making the site look cool" aesthetic is appropriate for the goal of this site, which is deep shop talk about an art form which is very specifically about how things sound and only peripherally related to how things look.

Caring about how the gear looks is the producer's job, remember?

We don't really need a new "design", but new forum engine would be great.

I personally can't stand change once I get used to a site.
I will admit, I was put off joining Gearslutz for years as the layout seemed a bit foreign and confusing.... but a couple of hours on here and it was a new home.
I don't need people messing with my home!
