shure ksm-32, $499.97

it's not always the best vocal mic i have, but i've yet to hear it be flat out bad. for some, it sounds great and the vocal sits in the mix nicely.

Sm7. Assuming you have a good pre.

If you don't...the 4047 is nice. The ADK Hamburg (at least the one they sent me) is pretty cool. Re20 can be just the ticket...but, with dynamics, the pre matters more than the condensors.

RCA BK-1A

None of the mid-level large diaphragm condensers just sound as good as a really good dynamic. Once you hit $800, things change.

I agree with that.
The Rode NTK is a great vocal mic.
Don't overlook a Shure sm57....at least throw it up there in your a-b comparisons, you may be surprised.

Another vote for the Shure KSM32. I tried out lots of mics, including ones twice the price, and the KSM32 was the one that made me smile (along with my Summit 2BA-221 preamp).
