Realtime Analyzer with Iphone??

Hello folks,

I thought It would be a nice and useful feature to have a RTA in your pocket all the time.

So, I was wondering if anyone has experience with that.

1. is the mic-preamp chain of the Iphone flat enough to get a useful result?
2. anyone found a good APP?

I found this one: "iAnalyzer, made by Phyar Studio" which is with ca. 16 € quite expensive.

Of course Im not expecting a professional trusting, tool or results but maybe its possible to get a quick overall picture for live or studio situations, maybe even of the time domain.

Thank you !

Intentionally limited, because it is a telephone intended for speech applications only. I believe the newer iPhones are even more narrow band than the first generation.

So, those programs are guessing at anything above 3k and below 300Hz.

I'm toying with the idea of getting a horizontal-standing iPhone dock that has a line-in jack and having my iPhone in the dock running RTA software while mixing. Probably nearly zero usefulness, but it would be a nifty little gadget, and I'm a sucker for nifty little gadgets heh

Is that also why, the input chain from the Ihpone is flat enough to give a measurement micro a proper input?

Thanks for all the answers...

+1 on the Studio Six Digital RTA app for iPhone. I pop it on to make ringing out monitors faster when I'm doing live sound.

The SSD version has a menu selection to pre-EQ the input to compensate for the various iPhone models.

Not a substitute for a 'real' RTA rig, but often close enough for rock 'n roll.

That and the TC Polytune are my most-used 'music' iPhone apps.

It doesn't go into the mic input on the iPhone

It goes into the data connection on the bottom, using it's own pre-amp and A/D converter, and doesn't involve the iPhone's audio electronics at all.

Please learn what you're on about before discrediting people.
