Deciding on a new DAW interface/preamp combination for my studio

I'm trying to decide on an interface...I'll be using Logic 9, and have been considering the Apogee Duet 2. I'm looking to record some good quality demos at this point (mainly vocals & acoustic guitar, with some electric guitar, bass, light percussion, etc.), but would eventually like to have the essential gear to make studio quality recordings. That being said, would I be better off spending less on an interface (say $300-$400, instead of $600 for the Duet 2) and buying a mic pre later? If I buy the Duet 2 and then later on buy a mic pre, would I even be using the Duet's pre's for which I basically paid a premium for in the first place? Thanks...
