Has anyone heard of a LBP S-2 AUDIO COMPRESSER/LIMITER?

I just won one on ebay and can't find any mention of it on the internet.

Here's the link.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=2544001732

ANY help is appreciated.

I wish there were more posts either:

a. making fun of me.
b. explaining that they used this thing before
c. explaining that it's a La-2a copy (3 knobs! it has to be)

never heard of it. If it is a poor LA2A copy, I applaud the makers for putting together such a convincing copy to fool unsuspecting people into parting with their money, all the while offering no warranty or return.heh

I haven’t seen a LBP S-2 in a long time. I friend of mine use to make these in high school metal shop - made about 20 or 30 of ‘em. He basically took apart an Alesis 3630 compressor and stuck it inside a new box with a VU meter. I think the VU meter made it sound better.

heh

hi xhiphop,

when I bought my LPB S-2 at eBay I didn't know any more about it than what can be learned in the above-mentioned usenet thread.
looked cool esthetically (I like VU's) but didn't convince me technically. So I set my maximum bid at $100.00 and got the beast for $90.00.
so far so good.

I was a bit disappointed when I received the S-2: it's a real light weight and the the mechanical construction is less than stellar.
also, the PCB is full of ICs - no I/O transformers.

I wouldn't use it for anything else than FX compression: the S/N ratio and frequency response are just too bad (this box seriously lacks bass).
nevertheless, it is a fun box in use.
pretty grainy when you wind it up, but in a useful way.
good if you want some extra dirt.

definitely not of the LA2A breed.

my 2 cents.

Thanks Michael,

I was definitely just kidding about the La-2a thing. I was looking for dirty effects compression and it looks like it might fit the bill - even if i overpaid for it.

...just feed the S2 really hot and bend the needle - you'll see that this box is pretty fun.

happy tweaking.

michael

p.s.: I was also joking regarding the LA2A look-alike contest.
but friends actually have mistaken my S2 for some bizarre urei blue stripe comp - not a bad thing either!

If you have the $$ to play with, you never know what you might find. For that little, you got yourself a cool rack filler if nothing else.

Funklogic makes some great ones, with better s/n, FWIW.
