Room Mic?

well it'll probably be some kind of condensor...tho i'm not sold on that 100%
this will be for drum recording and i've got a fair amount of Room to work with..

this is pure laziness (i don't think i can convince my drummer to let me muck about with 17 mics running around the room for hours..

so here's my list (Alphabetic)

ADK TC
AKG BlueLine (Hyper)
AT pro37r
Audix D2/D3
Beyer m160
Beyer M834
EV 660
EV 664
Senn 609
Shure 57 heh?
Unidyne Pe 52

bunch of RadioShak Mics...i'll probably try these first...

to tell you the truth, I was very surprised how good a studio projects B1 was for a room mic. a friend and I did a shootout with some much more expensive mics and it was better or as good as most. I haven't really liked it on anything else though.

Personally LOVE ribbons for the room mic.
In order of my own preference:
Coles 4038
RCA BX44 (this totally rocks.... they have a great one at Eastcote London....!)
Royer 121

Never tried the Beyer 160 (not sure if the tighter polar pattern is neccessarily best for a room mic...but you never know!)

If you're going to go down the condenser route, then usually bigger and darker is best...... U47....!!

If none on your list work for you I've heard good things about the Avenson sto-2 pair, and they're only $500/pair.

i try to ignore everything else and try to listen to what the room mic does to the kick + snare. if the K+S sound good in it with nice room ambi then i like it.

I agree.
That's also kinda my reason for preferring darker mics, is that they have less overpowering cymbal sounds. Then if you crush the signal you get beefier kick, snare and toms, without overpowering trashiness from the cymbals.
