SSL E {EQ only} UAD vs. Liquid mix

In this pool, we shootout SSL E EQ emulations from UAD and Liquid mix. SSL emulations of LM is not usable for bass frequencies surgery because of HiPass filter problems, but other filters works....

Settings: HMF Boost @ 2 kHz
LMF Boost @ 500 Hz wider Q

Carefully matched by VST plugin analyzer and by ears

Results:

01SSL - UAD
02SSL - Liquid mix

2 sounds a little grittier to me...just a little though. So I like that one in this instance.

Liquid Mix all the way. I love it since the day I got it. Too bad that too many people let fool themselves by its ugly gui.

now, it is easy to comment on this topic and say "yes UAD is better" tutt But the truth is, it is almost impossible to identify UAD in this one....

Not all the way. Sometimes it sounds plastic.

I was refering to this example in which LM is better (to my ears anyway) or at least as good as the UAD. There are many really great emulations on the LM and some not-quite-as-good ones, yes, but with those two things on the sides of our head we can decide what works and what doesn't. I am 100% sure that if LM had the graphics and the real names of the hardware pieces it emulates it would have become a really successful products. But many folks these days listen with their eyes, rather than their ears.

They're frighteningly close to my ears, however, I am just using desktop speakers.

I think the UAD sounds like it has a 'shinier' top end. Less mechanical than the Liquid Mix.

Both sound great though, certainly suited to the SSL sound
