Question regarding SSL-two-bus-comp-HW!!

Hi Community.

I know some of you are used to work with SSL boards.
As far as I know the 2 BUS comp never changed in the history on this boards.

To Christmas I purchased an SSL Gyraf BUS Comp Clone, with turbo board so it reacts like on the console.
Sadly it has not the original VCA but I still think it gives a good impression.

My question is how hard can I hit the input?
Does this compressor works well if it is hit a little harder?

What is your experience?

Thanks in advance and a happy 2011.

Mr.Holmes

PS:
Sorry for my bad english I don't know the correct technical terms so I tried this workaround in vocabulary heh

if you hit it hard you may get more GR than wanted most likely...without even touching the threshold. That's how my ssl works anyway.

The questions goes more in the direction if it stays neutral when hit a little harder??? Still have to try what you wrote - so the threshold stays zero you hit the stages and it starts to saturate?

typically I show up to 4db of gain reduction. I use the 2:1 ratio and I start with
the 10ms attack and I leave the release on auto. The one thing I usually mess with is the attack time.
