Sony PCM D50 as audio interface?

Hi

I know that the Zoom H4N can be used as an audio interface (via USB). I read somewhere a claim that the Sony PCM D50 can also be used like this via its optical digital output. Can anyone confirm this?

I'm hoping this is so, because I want to get a high quality portable recorder and also need an audio interface for my laptop. (I've considered the Zoom H4N, but from what I've gathered, the preamps on the Sony are better.)
