Revox Studio 2 speakers

Hi,

Anyone own a pair of these speakers? I recently these picked for cheap...

I guess Revox were never well known for their speakers, but I've found no information about these on the internet.

I'm getting a bit of distortion in the mid-range from one of the speakers, kind of a fizziness in the mid-range. It's intermittent, and all three drivers are working, nothing has blown. Maybe a dry solder?

Thanks!

OK, so after opening them up doing some troubleshooting, I've come to the conclusion that the tweeter must need replacing.

I've seen similar looking units of other photos of Revox speakers... Does any one recognize this one? t has no markings or serial number on it. Any ideas for a replacement/equivalent unit?

...thanks!

try the studer/revox site. it has plenty of info + they are very helpful in answering questions about old gear.

No luck with contacting Revox unfortunately...

"thank you for your inquiry.

Unfortunatly we are not able to help you with a Studio 2 anymore. These speakers are to old. We could help with a Studio 4, a later version, but for the Studio 2 we do not have any spare parts or technical documentation.

We are very sorry!"

These beasts must be pretty uncommon, even for Revox speakers...

hmmm.
i think there's something like a studer / revox "fan-club" in germany or austria. i've once read about theses guys. they dedicate their free time to keeping up reel2reels and mixing consoles of the named brands.
maybe those dudes could help you?
...
if i find a link i'll post.

Any markings or text at the back side of the tweeter ?
Or anywhere on the tweeter at all ?

Might help...

No... unfortunately not. That's what I was initially looking for.

There's no marking either on the mid unit; and the main unit just has a 'Studer' sticker on the back, although it also has a serial number stamped in the frame.

I'll check out that Revox fansite...

Well... It sounds like the problem has spread.
Both speakers now lack nearly everything in the top end, and some of the mid range...

...but you can still hear all drivers working when you listen close up.

I really don't know enough about speakers - is there anything in the filters that degrades over time and which would explain a progressive fade in performance rather than a sudden failure?
