Cheapest centre speakers ever

Hey, I was thinking of mounting a few centre speakers around the tracking rooms mostly for communications and occasionally running vocals for jams,

I started looking and found:
Pure Acoustics QX900C Center Speaker - $199 - Selby Acoustics

Then I kept looking and found these!
Dream VC Centre Speaker - $49 - Dream HiFi

Firstly, $49? I find that ridiculous
Same power rating as the other, at that price it's simply a joke

I figure 49, 199, probably about the same quality, unless I spend more like 1000 then will I really notice any (wasted) difference in quality given the application... you agree?

Lee is the $49 speaker Rosewood?

Seems crazy cheap.

Agreed with the quality though. Probably won't be much of a difference.
Maybe put a cheap compressor across the speaker. It's probably bound to blow with any sharp transients if not protected.

or just buy another when you blow it

Seems a good deal - wonder how they sound.

me too! I think they're shut till Tuesday 4th so I'll have to wait till then to find out
Surely though, for vocals and comms they'd be fine

I'll let you know,
their 5.0 speaker packages are stupidly cheap too

$599

No doubt they're mass produced in China.

I'd love to hear what $49 sounds like

Back in the day (in the UK) I used to sell speakers out the back of a white van - and we paid something similar for them. Did I buy any? Hell no!

Well I got them (all four of them) yesterday, certainly not bad speakers
Running them with a Bryston 3B-ST (150W/side) and a 3/4 volume they have no complaints. Punchy, bottoms probably drop off around 50Hz or so and there's seems to be a narrow, intense peak somewhere around 800. Tweeter sounds unpleasing

I wouldn't be buying them for listening pleasure, but for what I wanted them for they're spot on, build is OK - in all honesty they're a VERY decent speaker for the price. And like I said, I'd probably have to spend 10 times what they're worth for any marked improvement in sound quality

Big thumbsupthumbsupthumbsup to these guys
I asked him why they're so cheap, he says because they sell direct whatever that means (it is a warehouse)

Regardless, I bet they'd ship if you enquired
