will 1/2 more rack space kill your setup that much? Most converters need a gap of airspace anyway.

Anywho the "B"Word ADA8000 is as good as alot of converters for dirt cheap.

To each it's own though and I am sure you have your reasons.

eh eh...

thanks for your tips !
Actually I am looking for a possible switch to my live setup, which is composed by an Eventide H8000fw, a TC fireworx, a Boss Vf1 and a Fireface 400.
I am considering changing the FF400 to a Babyface because then I can easily take the audio card it with me when I don't need the full rack for processing ( when I can use my laptop alone).
Therefore a 1/2 rack ad/da converter with adat outs/ins could be placed in the hole left by taking the FF400 out.
I would use this to connect all the rack's gear to the new interface.

Before you ask :-)
I am considering moving from FF400 to Babyface ( which means Usb) because I need to change my laptop ( old Centrino) and:
-I would like not to spend the money for the only safe solution on pc: ADK;
-I would like not to spend the money for a Mac Book Pro to run Windows on it;
-I don't want to risk the nightmare in finding the right laptop with the right chipset with which I can safely add a firewire external port and so on.

Usb ( by Rme specifically) looks like the easiest solution for my use.

Anyway, this is just a consideration about a possibile alternative setup in the wide scenario that laptops' firewire issues are bringing up.

thanks,
Luca
