In Australia anyways..
"Poker Face" is pure eclecticism - maybe that's fitting. Basically a mashup of a 70s Boney M. song and a mid-80s tune I don't remember the name of right now.

personally I'll have to say Daft Punk "One More Time"

Numbers wise I gotta say Usher "Yeah"
Wrong, sorry. There was no Year Zero. 1-10, 11-20, 21-30... 2001-2010.

Believe me, I'd like to move on to the next, as much as the next guy.

No matter how mathematically correct that may be, our society still count's decades from the zero year through the 9 - thus, 1970 began the Seventies, 1980 the Eighties, 1990 the Nineties, 2000 the Aughts, and now 2010, the Teens. You will look awful foolish in 2020 trying to tell people that we are still in the teens, so my advice is to go with the flow.

Good to know that at least one person here knows when decades (and consequently centuries and millennia) begin.

Guess things got a bit screwed up with the fake (end of the) millennium bug but 110 years ago the world correctly celebrated the beginning of the new century on the 1st of January 1901.

If you take the decade as a whole, Britney takes the 1st place, Lady Gaga will be bigger in the '10s (she's only there since 2008).

So, I'd say 'Toxic' from Britney.

Me too, because everyone has different tastes, I can see this thread turning into a massive argument

Forgot About Dre?

Yes, but how many people know these and like these? I know a lot of people who dispise "In Da Club", but "California Love" seems to be liked almost universally. Musically it's a way more interesting track IMO.

Like I said, I don't think you can compare songs from totally different genres. I could give you a list of my favorite songs from any given decade, but I'm bound to forget some.

Likewise, any 2000-2009 list will be heavily loaded in favour of the last couple of years.

+1

Actually I do have to disagree a little because IMHO it would be more difficult back between the 70-90s due to there being so many great songs to choose from hehheh

I've got to agree with Linus. The two biggest songs were Hey Ya by Outkast and Crazy by Gnarls Barkley. Hey Ya in particular was EVERYWHERE. Not just party music, either - it was EVERYWHERE late 2003 / early 2004.

Sums up the post-9/11 boom years pretty well.

For the 80s I'd argue this would be Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean", for the 90s Dre's and 2Pac's "California Love".

But for the 00's? What do you think?

I'd say Hey Ya, except it's so much better than most of the pop output of the last decade that I'm not sure you can say it actually represents the decade accurately. But it sure fulfils all the other criteria.

If the period is defined to 2000 - 2009 on a personal level I would say Alicia Keys' "You Don't Know My Name" from 2003 as the song of the decade (just listen to the terrific bass line). But also songs like "Like You'll Never See Me Again" and her other hits I reckon among the best of the past decade.

But from a commercial standpoint it was without doubt the decade of B.E.P.. "I gotta feeling"..

"Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley stands out as the "best"

As far as most emblematic, that's a hard one

I do like this song a lot. I've seen PB+J four times (Peter solo once) and the first time, they played this song with Victoria on stage. It was wonderful.
