Looking for condenser mic for vocals, under 500

Hey guys/gals,

I am looking for a quality condenser mic under $500, mainly for recording vocals and acoustic guitar. My vocal quality is that of a raspier Jason Mraz, if that helps at all.

This will be for a home studio, and I have been looking at the Blue Mic "Baby Bottle"...thoughts? Any other suggestions or directions where to look?

Thanks,
John

Blue Baby Bottle was my fav after our 17-mic shootout:

Also, is it bad to buy used? Also, should I be looking at Dynamic mics as well? (ie, Shure SM57)

Here's three my sub $500 mics that I like on voices-

AT 4047
Shure SM7
Blue Baby Bottle (rarely, for my taste anyway)

Rode NTK $500 brand new, great on vocals and ac gtr. Bright and clear but still full sound. Not thin. I've used the baby bottle. From what i remember it's one of those mics good at putting out what goes in, but doesn't quite add any character to the sound.

Try out a Kel HM-7U--they have a return policy within 30 days.

It is primarily a vocal mic and does well with acoustic instruments as well.

Depending on what pre amp you'll be using will be a factor too.
Mic + Mic Pre combination can play a big role in the sound you're looking for.

The 7U into a GR ME-1NV for acoustic guitar sounds great.

+1 The HM-7U is a great mic for vox/acoustic guitar. Has a really balanced tone/sheen compared to similarly priced condensers which makes it nice on Vox/AC guitar and other wood instruments. Will be using it + SM7B the next couple months on my own voice.

Check out their page for samples and here for Kel and other Mics:

Oktava is a good brand for cheap condensors, especially when joly modded. I like most the 319 and the 105.

AT 4047 is also a very good mic, and the Shure SM7B is a studio essential.

a senheiser md441 is also very good, but will not be in the price category of the treadstarter
