SM-57 wiring - DIYers...!

Hey you... DIYers...

I have 2x SM57s that have the wires just south of the capsule disconnected. If you know this mic... it's the green and yellow wires that are soldered onto posts just as the wires are entering the capsule area. If you unscrew the top third of the mic, they are housed in this area.

So, it isn't clear which post or wire is positive and which negative. I suspect yellow is positive, no?

Plus, how can I tell which post is pos. and which is neg.? Even if I solder it incorrectly, is there a trick to be able to tell whether it would be in phase? What else should I be thinking about as I attempt to solder these suckers?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey John,

Thanks for the input. Green = positive. Great.

Now, how can I tell which post is positive? I have another 57 that is marked on the plate next to the post, but there's no consistency inside these things, so no way to tell which post is which. Does it hugely matter?

solder it, record a tap, look at the waveform, does it go up or down first? there you have your phase!

Interesting! That's a good strategy. I figured it would be something like that.

I suspect, that up for the first wave is correct phase, but down would be inverse?
