Fostex FR 2LE Destroys SCHOEPES CMIT 5u

I published a few days ago, a thread about the Schoepes CMIT 5u being plugged into a Fostex FR 2 LE, field recorder.

Since then, I've used this set up for 3 days and now, my CMIT 5u has completely stopped working.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm in the process of getting a refund.

$2000 investment= gone.

What could I have done wrong? It wasn't exposed to overly excessive load noise or moisture. It was simply plugged into the recorder, used around the house, and then started to smoke. Was it the set-up? Did this ever happen to anyone else?

I've gone back to using my AT4073.

Have you contacted Schoeps? The distributor?

Try to calm down a little bit. One of the wonderful things about using high end gear is that when something goes wrong, annoying though it is when it happens, the people involved will usually take care of you.

It's Christmas, but I've written then emails. Schoepes is in germany, but I've contacted B &H photo- they said I had TWO days to return damage product.

Not three. Clever of them.

It sounds like a faulty mic.

Very rare for Schoeps, but should easily be sorted under guarantee.

The shop saying two days is total rubbish.

I can't see the FR-2LE putting out such a high voltage that would fry a mic. not from a battery portable. It's most likely a faulty component in the mic..

Talk to Schoeps or their agent in your country. I'm sure they would want to find out why this happened - Schoeps are an excellent company and their back-up is superb.

Why do you think it's the Fostex?

Has it fried any other mics?

It is more likely, as I said above, to be a fault in the mic..

Extremely rare but, I think, far more likely than the recorder.

There are customer protection laws you can invoke against that kind of bull****. I don't know the specifics of NY state law, but AFAIK every state in the US gives you at least 30 days and many give you 90 or more. State law supersedes manufacturer's warranty or dealer policy, so if they try to give you the runaround tell them you'll call the authorities.
