Good vocal pres

I will be running an AT 3035 for vocals into protools.
I'm wondering what pres I should consider looking into without breaking the bank but still delivering a solid product.
I'm recording rock and roll music for home studio purposes.
What kind of specs should I be concerned with?

Any preamp would bypass the pre in my mbox, right?

Make sure you plug the output of you external pre into the line input on your Mbox to bypass the mbox Pre. And check out the Gap 73 its very good, even better modded.

Why can't I find anyone selling the Gap 73?
I see lots of good reviews... but musiciansfriend doesn't have it or Sweetwater.
Google is giving me nothing.
Help?

Sorry Try googling Golden Age Project pre-73. GAP 73 is the gearslutz shortway of saying it and check out micheal jolly for modding your mic.

Can't imagine how the voices get better, "silkier", smoother…

Could be possible I'll buy a second as soon as cash is back !

I have 2 TT Modded GAP 73's that I picked up from Warren @ Zen Pro. They are awesome for anything. Guitar, bass, vocals, kick & snare. Basically, everything important can run through this pre with no qualms. Do I like other high end pres a little better, yes. Is there a more ideal pre for vocals...in my opinion, yes. However, for this money, nothing touches it, I mean nothing. If you get the full mod, you get all the insides changed out for real Neve values and you get real Carnhill Trannies. Those suckers sound absolutely amazing. With the AT3035, you'll need something colored anyway IMO, so the Goldenage will be a good choice. Best wishes.
