Matching headphones & headphone amps

So I've been having a problem matching particular phones to the current heaphone amp I'm using. It's a Rolls RA62..... I've got several different pairs of phones. A few AKG 240's, a pair of Ultrasone HFI 550's, and an old pair of Beyer Dynamics.
The problem I'm having is that the new pair AKG's I bought can't be turned up very loud, they just distort. The Ultrasone's however can be turned up till your ears bleed, and with no distortion. The Beyer's are kind of the same. Both handle the lows very well. The AKG's just can't handle lowend.
Specifically the new pair of 240 STUDIO phones, they just break up way to easily, imho. I started thinking about the ohm rating on each of them, thinking that might have something to do with it.
The Ultrasone's are rated at 64 ohm, and the 240 STUDIO is rated at 54 ohm. Not sure about the Beyer's ??.
I know the AKG's don't suck, used them for years....however this new pair just is not delievering.

I think this ROLLS amp puts out enough power for general use.
What do people usually use in this scenario with multi channel headphone amps??....preferences??
