Unbalanced speaker inputs

I know that "google is my friend" but she isn't returning my calls on this one...

I just bought some Tannoy reveal 501a monitors. According to the manual and Tannoy's website these have "unbalanced trs" as well as xlr inputs. This is confusing and not sure if they have made a mistake.

Anyway, my (M-audio) interface has balanced outputs (trs).

Assuming the speakers are unbalanced, can I use standard jack (ts) cables? Or should I use trs cables, or trs to xlr?

Thanks

keep it balanced all the way. I would go for a balanced 1/4" to xlr if I were you. The speakers are not unbalanced, it is just the trs input that is. Go for the xlr input, and enjoy your interference-reduced sound

Actually it shouldn't make a heck of a lot of difference unless you have rf noise problems at your location.

But it's good practice to always use balanced connections just in case.

The 1/4" TRS that says unbalanced usually means it can accept a TS unbalanced source OR TRS balanced. Stay with TRS-XLR or TRS-TRS cables is best especially when you have a bunch of cable runs laying near each other.

Instrument cables will work if thats all you have for now. Nothing will be damaged by it.

You will notice many mixers also have 1/4 phone output jacks that say:
BAL/UNBAL. That means Tip/Sleeve or Tip/Ring/Sleeve cables can be used.
In a PA system I always stay balanced TRS or XLR because of long cable runs.
