Alesis HD 24 xr as IO?

Hey Guys,

This will be the Second of my Three posts.

With PT 9 open, I'm considering taking my Alesis HD 24 xr using it as my IO and light piping everything into my Mac.

To get it into the Mac, Frontier Dakota has been mentioned along with it's Montana extension, but I've seen them listed as discontinued. Is this the same card as RME?

Also, Clocks? Antelope? Big Ben or I've read about a new $500 clock that reviewed as great, but just can't find the mag.

Please share your opinions and ideas please.

Thanks,

Bob

I think it is a fine idea. I do this regularly. Keep in mind that it will not be 24 simultaneous IO. It is 24 inputs OR outputs. You can configure them in banks of 2. So, you could have 22 inputs and 2 outputs and everything in between.

also, i have an isochrone ocx AND a big ben. i would go with the big ben because it has plenty more features like external sync, format conversion, etc.

I use a HD24XR interfaced with a RME 9652 and it works great.

You have to configure the I/O in pairs and they only work digital or analog, not both and depending on your work flow it may or may not be an issue.

the problem is that any given input feeds BOTH its corresponding analog and digital outputs simultaneously. no way around it. there is no way to assign analog inputs to feed digital out and the digital ins to feed analog out. make sense?

So it's just a problem when going from in to out of the box for external processing and then back in again?
