my chemical romance guitar tone on "famous last words"

YouTube - My Chemical Romance - Famous Last Words (Video)

anyone know anything about the mics used, tracking, or mixing tricks (doubling, effects, automation, etc.) to get the guitar/drum hits from 0:18 to 0:30 in this tune?

i love that tone and mixing. those hits are so dirty, but slam in and out so cleanly, yet somehow sound like they were played just like that.

just curious if anyone has thoughts or actual knowledge on some of this technique.

i like this band. i tend to think they're over mixed, but that said I like the weird illusions. for example, in this part of the tune, there's one guitar playing pretty light sixteenth notes, then the other guitar behind it slamming those hits. but the relative levels of the two are backward, in that you'd expect the full on slams to totally dwarf these light sixteenth notes, but they don't... they dial in this gigantic tone for those slams, then compress it into the background. i know that's over thinking it, but that's the fun of it.
